Stripy cat pattern

I made a yellow and orange stripy kitty for my niece four years ago, one of my very first toys. That little cat quickly became her favorite toy and she wouldn't leave the house or go to bed without it. So, as you can imagine, after all these adventures the kitty started to look a bit tired. And this spring I made her a new one, so the old cat could retire before it fell apart completely (although, as I hear, my niece and her mom still have arguments almost daily whether or not the old kitty has to stay at home or not).

After posting a photo of the new cat on social media I got so many requests to write a pattern and of course I complied :) It's a great project for beginner crocheters and doesn't take too long to finish, especially if you skip the stripes. Because, to get perfect stripes, you need to crochet in rounds instead of spiral, and for the best result, join all rounds using the seamless join method, which takes almost twice as long.

I used DK weight alpaca wool (50g = 100m / 8 ply/ 11 wpi) and a 2,50mm crochet hook (US size 2/C) and my cat turned out about 22cm (8 2/3") tall.

When testers were working on their stripy kitties, I decided to make another one myself, with super bulky wool and acrylic blend and a 4,00mm crochet hook (US Size 6/G). I also used 18mm safety eyes. That kitty is about 40cm (16") tall.
